ASSOCIATION PURPOSE
This large Multi-Museum & Heritage Railway Centre is being planned for completion in 2015 or early 2016. It is planned, subject to the results of our Feasibility Study, to have the following museums and exhibit areas:
The pioneer railway workers of other nationalities will be also honoured with exhibits in the WCHC buildings.
Kamloops Museum and Archives can relocate to the Centre with larger space for exhibiting, conservation, live performance exhibits, and their educational presentations. They will have much larger space to hold their community awareness lunches and showings.
Rocky Mountain Rangers Museum and Archives (Military) will relocate and enjoy the same advantages as the Kamloops Museum. It is also planned to have a large display acreage east of the city to show large historic military vehicles such as Tanks, Gun Carriers, Cannons, Trucks.
Kamloops Heritage Railway Roundhouse Museum - historical exhibits plus volunteers working on site to refurbish railway cars and engines. This site will attach to the Centre's main building's third floor level with a Skywalk overpass across the interchange railway track.
Ranching and Cowboy Life Museum. These early pioneers were working here and establishing ranches here during the Gold Rush era. British Columbia has a great history of Cattlemen and Horse suppliers. There is a large influence of Spanish horsemen in our Cowboy history.
RCMP Exhibition and Private RCMP Exhibitions. The Northwest Mounted Police history and the earliest RCMP history was exciting!
B.C. Police Museum. The Provincial Police force and various Municipal Police forces were important in our history.
Kamloops Indian Band exhibition and / or "bridging" to the Museum on their Reserve Lands. Kamloops was a traditional trading centre for large numbers of native people, from time immemorial.
Two River Métis Museum and Archives. Their history in British Columbia and all Canada needs to be researched and recorded for future generations.
WCHC could also be a focal point for Kamloops Cultural, Arts, and Performing Arts Groups so that these valued community enhancements are clustered for greater community involvement, and can be showcased to the large tourist traffic anticipated.
To have a 5 year plan to later include a Performing Arts Theatre with a capacity of at least 2,000 seats for performances that our Sagebrush Theatre can not accommodate.
Commercial leases for local and tourism related venues to help self-finance the overall operation of the centre, plus these:
1. Rooftop Dining facility, with adjustable spaces and twin Kitchens for large catering events, seating up to 4,500.
Elevated mobile stage for smaller Dinner Theatre productions.
2. Gift Shop, carrying products associated and coordinated with all our museums.
3. Coffee Bars, located in at least three areas as rest stops and family oriented convenience stops.
To honour all those pioneer people who played a role in establishing our province and our nation. To record and preserve documents and artefacts in perpetuity for educational purposes for present and future generations. To ensure that our youth are able to understand the sacrifices, hardships, and progress that their ancestors made to build their lives and our country.
To become a major Tourist Destination Centre with many short and medium range Tours scheduled to other B.C. Interior points of historical and natural interest.
